Job Summary

The Assistant Building Engineer supports the Building Engineer in maintaining and overseeing the facilities and equipment. This role involves assisting with routine maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of building systems. The Assistant Building Engineer will work closely with various departments to facilitate production needs and contribute to improving overall facility operations. Strong communication skills, a willingness to learn, and a mechanical aptitude are essential for this position.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Assist in conducting routine inspections and maintenance of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and safety equipment 
  • Help troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues in equipment and machinery 
  • Support compliance with safety regulations and company policies regarding facility maintenance
  • Collaborate with the Building Engineer and other departments to schedule maintenance activities with minimal disruption to production 
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections 
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of facility upgrades and improvements
  • Respond to maintenance requests and emergencies under the supervision of the Building Engineer
  • Help monitor and manage inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment 
  • Participate in safety meetings and contribute to a culture of safety within the company 
  • Provide assistance and support in training staff on basic facility maintenance procedures 

 

Schedule

 Monday-Friday, 9am-5:30pm

Requirements

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly 
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods while performing maintenance tasks
  • Comfort with working at heights, including using ladders as needed 
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools safely and effectively
  • Comfortable working in various environmental conditions, including exposure to dust, noise, and varying temperatures 

 

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in facility maintenance or a related field is preferred but not required 
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and general building maintenance practices 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to assist in troubleshooting mechanical issues • Excellent communication and organizational skills 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping and maintenance tracking • Willingness to learn and develop skills in building maintenance and engineering practices 
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred
